What are the Ministries Supported by the Purchase?

Hi.  I’m Bonnie McGrane. Christian College Parents is an organization that I founded to help Christian parents support their high school and college students while they were selecting the right college, applying to college, finding financial aid, and dealing with the issues college students face today.  Since I started Christian College Parents, it has been my ministry, and I have used my own money to support it.  Until this time, I have never sold anything to support the ministry, but the time has come when that has become necessary.   I also want to support the non-profit Ecclesia Bible Society, a wonderful ministry that publishes (in partnership with Thomas Nelson Publishing)  my favorite Bible translation and that also creates jobs for extremely poor families in Argentina.  These families hand-make the leather covers that come with The Voice New Testament.  They work decent hours in good conditions while making a fair wage.  This has given many families hope for a better tomorrow.

What is The Voice New Testament?

The Voice seeks to recapture what was lost.  Putting together a group of 80 scholars and writers the Ecclesia Bible Society gave each book to one writer and one scholar to start the process of translating God’s message to His people.  Each book was also given to seven other people who love and know the Bible to read and critique.  In all there were fourteen levels of review to ensure that this is not just a beautifully written New Testament, but also an accurate translation.

One of the scholars that worked on The Voice New Testament is Dr. David Capes, Professor in Christianity at Houston Baptist University.  He has a PhD in New Testament and has authored or co-authored several books including books on the apostle Paul and early Christianity.  He is the David that Chris Seay, Ecclesia Bible Society President , refers to in the video below.

More Information on The Voice New Testament with Handmade Leather Cover

This edition of The Voice New Testament is an oversize paperback book that measures 9” X 6” X 1”.  Because of its size, the print is larger and therefore more readable for people like me who are past a certain age.

The Commentary

There is commentary, which is in boxes that are interspersed in the verses instead of at the bottom of the page in little bitty print.  The size of the print in the commentary boxes is the same size as that in the verses, which is larger than in most other New Testaments.  The commentaries also give additional information about some of the stories, so people who are less familiar with the Bible and Biblical history can understand who the people are and what is happening.  Sometimes the commentaries refer back to the Old Testament and give the significance of the New Testament passage in light of something that happened in the Old Testament.

Other Unique Features

Words that were not in the original text, but which makes the verses and the story flow better, are in italics to differentiate them.  Some of The Voice is that it is formatted like a script – when someone is speaking it gives the person’s name before the words they say. This makes it easier to tell who is speaking in any verse. For example, when Mary is told that she is going to give birth to God’s son, it looks like this:

Mary (deciding in her heart): 38Here I am, the Lord’s humble servant.  As you have said, let it be done to me.

The Quality Leather Covers

The fine-quality leather covers come in different colors, so you can select which color you want.  However, each leather cover is just a little bit different than every other cover, because each one is handmade. The one that we will send you will be in the color you choose, but will be slightly different than the leather cover in the photo. Your handmade leather cover will be one of a kind.  The leather cover slips over the cover of the oversize paperback, and will already be in place when The Voice New Testament is shipped.  It makes The Voice New Testament look like a leather-bound book that would cost much more.

Who are the People Who Hand-make the Leather Covers?

The people who hand-make the leather covers live in deplorable conditions in Buenos Aires.   Their pastor wanted to find a way to help them make a living.  He knew how to do leather work, but there was not a market that would support many people.  The Ecclesia Bible Society partnered with these people to make the beautiful leather covers for the oversize paperback version of The Voice New Testament.  Now these good Christian people have hope of a better tomorrow for their families.    For more information see the video below:

What is Christian College Parent

As stated above, Christian College Parents is an organization that  helps Christian parents help their high school and college students find the right college, apply to college, get financial aid and deal with the issues that college students face today.  I helped my children with the college selection/application/financial aid process, as well as dealing with college issues during a particularly stressful period in my and their lives.

Right after our son Chris started University of Houston and our daughter Kat entered her sophomore year in high school, my husband Hugh was diagnosed with ALS, (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease), which is a fatal disease.

After Hugh’s passing, I thought about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.  I knew I wanted to do something that would help others.  A college degree is essential in today’s world, but it can also be very expensive.   I decided to help other Christian parents help their children get a college degree without putting themselves or their children in huge debt. I also wanted to help other Christian parents help their college students deal with the issues that college students face today.

In addition to my own experience, I’ve spent two years researching all the relevant topics, and continue to do research.   I also found experts in the different aspects of getting into and attending college to give Christian College Parents the benefit of their collective wisdom and experience.
